Prof. Brett Manley

PLATIPUS Co-Founder & Neonatologist

Brett Manley is the co-founder of PLATIPUS. He co-chairs the PLATIPUS Trial Management and Neonatal Domains Committees, and co-leads the trial's first neonatal domain, BabyCCINO, investigating caffeine dosing for very preterm infants.

Brett holds a Professorial appointment in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Newborn Health at The University of Melbourne. He is supported by an NHMRC Investigator Grant to lead and collaborate on clinical trials to improve the health of preterm and sick newborn infants. He is also a Neonatologist and the Director of Newborn Research at The Mercy Hospital for Women in Melbourne.

His recent research includes the PLUSS trial of intratracheal budesonide mixed with surfactant to increase survival free of bronchopulmonary dysplasia that enrolled over 1000 extremely preterm infants in 21 centres. He has previously published 4 multicentre trials of nasal high-flow use in preterm infants in the New England Journal of Medicine.

Brett's personal mantra is to "think big", and he is passionate about mentoring early career researchers to lead their own clinical research.
